Feeling sleepy at work is a common thing. And when you work from home, it’s something that you will face every day.
Sometimes you may feel so sleepy that you almost bump your head on the desk. If it’s the case, you need to fix this to get your things done.
If you have a good sleep at night and you still feel sleepy at work, here are some quick ways to get rid of sleepiness and stay awake.
1. Take A Power Nap
When it’s really tough for you to stay awake, it’s better to take a power nap. A 10-20 minutes nap can help you to get rid of sleepiness and boost your energy.
It’s not necessary to sleep for the whole time. Even if you don’t fall asleep within your power nap time, you will gain energy because of relaxing your body.
It might take some time to get used to with power nap. But over the time, it will be easier to take the power nap.
2. Switch Your Task
Doing a single task for a long time can make you feel dull. And it will eventually lead you to the sleepiness. If you feel this way, change your work. Do something exciting and enjoyable.
Sometimes, you may feel sleepy while doing a hard but essential task. In that case, you should do that job in the early morning when you feel fresh and energetic.
3. Take A Tea Or Coffee Break
Taking a tea or coffee break can help you to stay awake for a while. The idea is simple. Just stop working and have a cup of tea or coffee.
Choosing tea or coffee depends on your preference. While coffee can help you to stay awake for a long time, excessive coffee drinking can harm your sleep habit.
I prefer tea. Green tea is my personal favorite. It relieves stress too.
4. Do Some Exercises
Exercising can boost your energy as well as help you to get rid of sleepiness. There are some exercises that you can do from your desk.
However, if exercise is not your thing, you can try stretching your body or a simple walk.
5. Splash Cold Water On Your Face
This is the quickest solution. Just splash some cold water on your face. It will make you feel like fresh, and you will be able to stay awake.
Whenever you feel tired or stressed, do it. You will feel better and energetic. In fact, you can do it time to time.
6. Use Pomodoro Technique
Sitting for a long time can make you feel sleepy. It is also bad for your health.
The best way to get rid of this is, using Pomodoro technique. The idea is to take a 5-minute break after a 25-minute work. And take a 20-minute break after completing four 25 minute works. But you can customize the time in your own way.
It will also make you productive and help you to manage your time better.

7. Drink Enough Water
Dehydration can make you feel sleepy. You should drink enough water to get rid of dehydration as well as sleepiness.
There is no exact rule on how much water you should drink every day. It depends on your body’s needs. Whenever you feel thirsty, drink some water.
Keep a glass of water on your desk all the time.
8. Keep A Sound Environment
It’s very necessary to have a sound environment in the office to make you feel fresh and energetic. Make sure your office has a good lighting setup. If possible, try to get sunlight.
Another important thing is indoor plants. These will increase the oxygen in the air.
9. Avoid Taking Heavy Meal
When we take a heavy meal, your digestive system gets busy to process the food and blood flows to the system. And it makes you feel sleepy.
So avoid taking a heavy meal. Especially on the lunchtime.
10. Watch Something Interesting On Youtube
When you feel sleepy, you may watch something interesting on Youtube. It will trick your brain to wake up.
However, don’t make it a habit. Don’t try it all the time.
